We first began supplying Yoga equipment online to a handful of Yoga teachers, schools and students in 1999. We set up a few HTML pages within some free, personal web space from our own ISP, and we named it Simply Yoga, (because that is what it was!)
As our online sales grew, our ideas for the business also grew, and we began to trade from the domain, simply-yoga.co.uk in 2001, we set up online payments and eventually incorporated as YOGACO LIMITED, (a private commercial company) about four years later in August 2003.
To give us sufficient scope and to put some distance between what we offer and the markets in North America, we changed the company name to YOGA.EU LTD in August 2006.
But after a domain name dispute with a german internet marketing company over the domain, yoga.eu we changed our name once more, tothe EUROPEAN YOGA NETWORK LTD two months later, in October 2006.
Realising that we had slowly been dragged into an overly commercial business sector, later that month, EUROPEAN YOGA NETWORK LTD converted to YOGA NETWORK C.I.C. (a Community Interest Company), but retaining European Yoga Network as a trade mark and trading name.
Co-founder, Sati Witts is an arts graduate who trained as a Theravadin Buddhist monastic in the Thai forest tradition for seven years and teaches part time.
Co-founder, Mat Witts made a personal commitment to adopting Yoga as a way of life in May 1990 after a brief, and seemingly random spiritual episode
which might best be referred to in terms of the Zen (Buddhist) concept of Kensho ? ?
YOGA NETWORK C.I.C. is the worlds' first, (and only) Yoga Community Interest Company and it runs the worlds' first, (and only) ecological (100% solar powered) Yoga network !.
The Community Interest Company status is critical in the development of our aims and objectives. It gives us legal form for both commercial operations as a social venture company and in-built ethical credentials that commercial Yoga companies and Yoga charities find much more difficult to achieve.
With continued, intuitive stewardship from the directors we believe that the company continues to provide the ideal vehicle for those interested in supporting Yoga in europe.
Our plan is to secure more investment and financing from private sources, with the possibility of further help from public sector grants and awards. Our aim is to increase our stocks of ethical and fair trade goods, increase our sales of ethical and fair trade goods, and generally develop and improve the services we can offer to the community.
If you have ideas or suggestions about how more funds, or other resources might be procured, or how funds might be applied to any of the projects contained in this plan for community benefit, then please do contact us.
